Dr. Katharina Maier Joins Us to Collaborate

It is always wonderful to be able to welcome a new person to our collaborator team. It is with great excitement that we welcome Dr. Katharina Maier to that team. She brings corrections and comparative prison and criminal law expertise to the team, and she has already been heralded in her field. We welcome her. We asked Dr. Maier to tell us about her work. Here is what she said:

"I hold a Law Degree from the University of Muenster (Germany) and a Master’s degree and PhD from the Centre for Criminology & Sociolegal Studies at the University of Toronto. As an interdisciplinary scholar, my research lays at the intersection of four subfields: law and society; punishment and prison law; urban poverty and public health; and comparative law and criminal justice. I am currently PI on a SSHRC-funded project investigating front-line responses to the “meth crisis” in Manitoba with a focus on how criminal justice and public health work are re-shaped at times of perceived “crisis.” My research has been supported by the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, SSHRC, and other funding sources, and has been published in Theoretical Criminology, Punishment & Society, and other outlets. I have a special interest in comparative and global criminology, criminal justice, and law, and seek to produce scholarship that is relevant and accessible to policy and public debate."
