Robsoncrim.com is proud to welcome another amazing team member! We continue to grow our interdisciplinary team to bring you cutting edge insights into criminal law, justice, criminology and related fields. A big and warm welcome to our friend Professor Debra Parkes!

Debra Parkes is Professor and Chair in Feminist Legal Studies in the Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia. From 2001 to 2015 she was a member of the Faculty of Law, University of Manitoba where she served as Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies) from 2013-2016. Her scholarly work examines the challenges and possibilities of framing and adjudicating rights claims, with a particular focus on gender (in)equalityand rights in the criminal justice, corrections, and workplace contexts. She has received funding from the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to examine mechanisms for oversight and accountability of imprisonment in Canada and she is beginning a new SSHRC-funded collaboration to develop participatory-action research methods for prison research that bring academics, former prisoners, and community agencies together to systematically collect and document prisoner experiences. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law from 2009-2013 and President of the Canadian Law & Society Association from 2007-2010.
